My Happy Place
Sorry no Coffee Talk this week. I have a few good topics, but I have not fully developed them yet.

I thought I would tell you about my happy place. We all have them. Mine happens to be a greenhouse (shocking!) Actually it is a conservatory. It is here in town in a fairly large park. I can't remember the exact name of it, but my friend Carlos calls it the glass house. I was feeling pretty blue last week so I thought I would take a drive on over to the glass house. I hadn't been in quite a while. When I go I usually load up some major camera equipment and prepare myself to photograph my way through the joint. This time I wasn't in the mood to make sure I had enough film, my note cards, the right lenses and make sure everything was clean. So I grabbed the digital and ran.

Upon walking in the door I was immediately calmed. There must be something about the heat and humidity that make me feel warm and cozy. Maybe that is why I was so reluctant to give up the greenhouse job I had. They had the entry decorated with beautiful Hydrangeas. The lemon tree wasn't blooming, but huge semi-ripe fruit hung from the branches.

I made my way to the very back where the bench is. I snapped some photos of gorgeous white orchids along the way. I sat down on the bench with my new best friend iPod. I love the smell of that place. Musty organic matter. For the short time I was there I just tried to relax. I didn't think about the bad stuff that has happened in the last few weeks. I didn't worry over how long it was going to take for a new referral. I didn't stress over the fact that I have yet to come up with the remaining money to finish our adoption. It was just me and the plants (and a little Ashley MacIssac.) It was just peaceful.

I encourage you all to find your happy place. Here are a few photos I took of mine.

i happened upon your website via hell and highwater. stephanie posted a comment on my blog a few months ago so now i go check hers out every once in awhile. my husband and i are in the process of adopting. i am sorry for the loss that you recently experienced. you are right though, to follow God's leadings. He's the only one who really knows. He's got a plan for all of us and will unfold it at just the right time. keep focusing on Him and trusting His guidance. i found this verse at some point during our journey, i keep it fresh in my head and in my heart all of the time. i hope it helps you too. "many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." proverbs 19:21 i have more where that came from if you need them! i'll be praying for you and your husband, for mending in your hearts, the endurance to keep going, and the love you'll need to make it through.

I am not sure what my happy place is anymore. It used to be my bed. Seriously, I am soo happy in my bed. Then maybe the nordstroms, is that possible? Then maybe the ocean, but I live 2 hours away from it now, after growing up with the Long Island Sound down the street. Then it was the gym for a while. I have no idea anymore. I guess I better figure it out huh. Maybe that will be helpful when I am in a funk. Ohhh...there is a rose garden I like to go to but that is only in bloom 3 months a year.

Must think, does eating count :-).

My favorite place to be is called Glen Lake in Northern Michigan. We spent summers there when I was growing up. There's just a smell and a feel in the air. It's almost tangible. I feel comforted just thinking about it.

It seems like a very peaceful place, I'm glad you draw strength from it. My happy place is definitely the ocean. The vastness of it all helps me realize I am one speck in the universe so I need to stop thinking it all revolves around me! Yeah so, the ocean, and just about any shoe department. Also my knitting brings me great peace. Creating beautiful things while focusing in-ward (translation - my husband doesn't bug me) helps me relax!

Thanks for the photos. I am glad that you have such a place to go where you can feel happy. We all should get out in nature more- I think we all need it.

We have a garden not to far from us called Brookside Gardens
http://www.mc-mncppc.org/parks/brookside/

The first time I happened upon it I was so amazed. It was like a wonderland. Even my kids, who I wouldn't think would be excited by flowers, loved it. I have never seen such creations as we saw there. I can't wait to go back. I will bring my camera next time.

I really like the ocean and the forest too. I really do like to camping like I mentioned. I even named my second son's middle name Forest.
