Still doing well
When you spend your entire day inside it seems to lack excitement. After we stopped laughing at everything our boy does the day gets repetitious. We did confiscate the crayons, but CS gave them back this morning while I was in the shower. Big mistake. Now we have purple to go with the red.

Let’s see… other stuff. Still loves bath time. Last night I was running the water and Pickle decided to stick his hand in the stream coming from the faucet. This was the greatest thing evah! I took his shirt off so it wasn’t soaked. Then he decided to sit down and take his socks off. Unfortunately the water never got hot so CS had to boil pots of water. It worked. He did not mind that the water was not that hot. Pickle played in the bath until he was pruny! I may have been just as wet has he was.

Bed time is getting a little better. We decided to take advice from some of you and go with our own little routine. We have bath time and put on pjs. Then we sit and listen to Baby Bach. The bath gets him so worked up that we need something to calm him down. (Thanks Lawvers for lending us the baby Einstein DVDs.) Then we go into the bed and sit together and rock. When he is ready to go to sleep he crawls out of my lap and lays down and rocks side to side while I put my hand on him. It works pretty well. The good thing is last night when he needed some comfort he got up and crawled into my lap. This made me feel good.

Nap time only took about 10 minutes to fall asleep. He does rock when it is time to get up or just when he is done sleeping. It is a little harder to console him then. This morning we just got up and after nap we rocked together.

We went for passport photos this afternoon and the ride in the machina was ok. Again, very timid. He still isn’t sure of Kathou & Paypay’s little one, but both kids did really well.

The weather here has been great. 70 and sunny, with an occasional bug storm. Must close the windows at night lest we get eaten alive. Too bad Pickle gets a little freaked out every time we go outside. Tomorrow we might make a trip to the big gold church. That was today’s plan, but we had to go for the passport photos. CS may go into town to hunt down some cigars though. They are telling us there is some kind of quarantine here until the 11th so not to take the children into crowded areas. Not sure what that one is about, but has something to do with the river. Lovely.

We do miss everyone and can’t wait to come home. Pickle will be so much happier with more than 3 toys to play with, and a yard to run around in. We are working on showing photos of Babushkas and Dedushkas, aunts and uncles. He can muster a crude babushka, but dedushka is doesn’t come out very well.

I also want to congratulate Mrs. Broccoli Guy on her good news! Oh man I wish I were home. I seriously would hop in the car and drive up to give you a great big hug! Let us know when you go to finally get Zeeb!!!!!

We are so missing you but loving the daily blogs . . .thanks for doing them even though we know you must be exhausted. Parenting is not for wimps! :-)) You guys are both "naturals" and doing a fabulous job of helping the little guy adjust to a whole new world along with being with his forever family. We're sending lots of luv to all three of you and counting the days until you're home again in the land of hugs'n kisses. Happy tomorrow! Dad and Mom

Keep up the good work on the bedtime routine. I think routine, any routine is key to bedtime success.

So glad Pickle is settling in and you all are developing a happy routine. According to USA Today 9/5, Khabarovsk has had over 1,000 cases of meningitis in school age children in the past couple of weeks so I am guessing that is why they have encouraged you not to get out in crowded areas. We are home now.....all is well. Give our love K&E&N as well as your DH and DS! God bless.

Sounds like you are handling every challenge well. He sounds like an absolute doll. Routine is good. You are smart to start one at bedtime. That will help all of you so much. Glad he came to you for comfort. That is a BIG deal. We are still working on that.

Oh my gosh I wanted to cry when you said he crawled into your lap for comfort. Makes all this crap worth it huh?

If you can- buy this: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - this takes off all crayon from walls. If you can't find it there make sure you have some at home- or banish all crayons.

This is such a great time for you to be in Russia. You are so lucky to be spending out your days with such great weather.

We got the Baby Einstein DVDs too, so I am glad to know that Pickle likes them.

One thing though- it is very important that you have a bedtime ritual every night (like you are starting), BUT don't let it get too elaborate because your child will NOT let you skip parts of it once you start. You might be able to shorten parts, but you can't skip parts- so be careful with how much you do for him before bed. This is just from my experience.

You are doing great!

So glad things are going well! Yes, the Magic Erasers work great!

I heard a story on our local news channel last night, and read it in the Moscow Times this morning - and instantly thought of you (with your toliet video you had!!) :)
They are having a WTO - World Toilet Organization in Moscow this week (not sure how long it lasts). And on display are various and weird toilets - like you haven't seen them already! Thought you could use a chuckle!! Take care!!!

You both are doing such a wonderful job, such natural parents!!! Elle, you are a great mommy!!! We are counting down the days until you return home!!!! Thank you for the updates! Pickle sounds like he is adjusting great! What's a little crayon, huh? Its not your house (hopefully there isn't a cleaning bill involved). When we introduced Laura to crayons we had her draw on the kitchen floor with a ton of newspaper on the bottom and white on top. She loved having her hand and feet traced, along with our hands and feet traced too! Do they make bath tub crayons there? Love you guys! m, h, l, e

Elle, thanks so much for the congrats. It's still sinking in that we are finally "unstuck" after all this time. :-) Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be back in the states long before we get travel approval, so you won't miss out on any of the excitement!

It's great to hear how well Pickle is doing... just amazing really to see how quickly he is adjusting and bonding to you. You guys are doing a great job. Hope the rest of your process goes smoothly and you can come home soon!
